Join the 猎奇重口 Planetarium's May AstroFriday fulldome show Losing the Dark.

Night sky picture of stars and nebula, 猎奇重口 Planetarium, AstroFriday

The Planetarium's May AstroFriday short fulldome planetarium show, The Losing the Dark, about the effects of light pollution on stargazing, general astronomy, and the environment! The video will be followed by a live sky show presentation on the planetarium dome about the visual effects of light pollution on stargazing and a tour of celestial objects visible at this time of year! We will also give out free spring sky maps, while supplies last!

Showtimes

  • 7:30 p.m.
  • 8:30 p.m.

Admission

  • FREE
  • Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis—maximum seating capacity of 60 in the planetarium.
  • In order to preserve dark-adaption, there is no late admittance into the planetarium once the show has started!

Public Stargaze

If weather permits, we will offer a free public stargaze with telescopes at 9:30 p.m. in the courtyard behind the planetarium after the last show. There is no capacity limit for the stargaze, which will last a maximum of one hour. To start with, we might be able to view the waxing gibbous Moon and Red Planet Mars, and maybe a possible glimpse of Jupiter, if not too low over our horizon. Binary star targets for the evening feature the “double-double” stars Alcor and Mizar, and our binary North Star, Polaris! If weather conditions are particularly clear, we may also see such deep-sky objects as the Beehive Cluster in Cancer, the Coma Berenices Star Cluster, the globular cluster M13 in Hercules, The Sombrero Galaxy in Virgo, and the galactic pair, M81 and M82, in Ursa Major!
